About the USGA:

The USGA is a nonprofit organization that celebrates, serves and advances the game of golf. Founded in 1894, we conduct many of golf’s premier professional and amateur championships, including the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open Presented by ProMedica. With The R&A, we govern the sport via a global set of playing, equipment, handicapping and amateur status rules. 

USGA Membership:

The USGA is more than just golf’s governing body in the United States and Mexico. We are the game’s most steadfast advocate. Our programs step up to the myriad challenges and opportunities facing golf and its future — reducing the amount of water it takes to keep a course in optimal playing condition, maintaining the rules, honoring golf’s traditions and heritage, and providing pathways to competition for all through our Open and Amateur championships. No organization does more for golf, and USGA members are our biggest supporters.

USGA Foundation:

The USGA Foundation is the member engagement and fundraising program within the United States Golf Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Established in 2017, the USGA Foundation secures resources to fulfill the USGA’s commitment to invest in programs and solutions that best serve golf for all who love and play it. The Foundation is focused on four impact areas that are essential to the health and future of the game: enhancing the on-course experience for all players, creating a healthier relationship between courses and the environment, celebrating traditions and preparing future leaders. 

WHS and GHIN:

The vision to unify the six different handicap systems in use around the world into a single World Handicap System required the commitment of, and collaboration between, many organizations. All of the following organizations have provided their support to this important initiative and played their part in establishing the key principles, which shaped the proposals and drove forward the initiative to the point where a new World Handicap System could be introduced in 2020. 

Rules of Golf:

In collaboration with The R&A, the USGA writes, interprets and educates on the four sets of rules that define the game globally. 

USGA Golf Museum and Library :

The USGA Golf Museum and Library is the nation’s oldest sports museum and the world’s leading institution for the collection, preservation, interpretation and dissemination of golf history. Our collections, the world’s largest and most significant related to the game of golf, serve as the foundation of our diverse roles, services and initiatives. Explore the world’s premier collection of golf history and dive deeper into the game’s rich past by visiting the Museum at USGA headquarters in Liberty Corner, New Jersey.
